Categories of Excellence

Nominees must demonstrate excellence in one of the following areas of focus, but also show a commitment to the other areas:

  • Leadership: Demonstrating outstanding leadership in advancing patient care or education, supporting leadership development of others, and fostering an inclusive, collaborative environment.
  • Innovation: Mentoring others in scholarly work or other innovative projects and disseminating ideas nationally, regionally or to other learning environments.
  • Teaching: Playing a key role in interdepartmental activities, providing organized, evidence-based teaching, adapting to learner levels, and developing innovative curricula or evaluation tools.

 

Nomination Requirements

To be considered, each nomination must include the following:

  • A nomination from a current AFMRD member (or self-nomination if applicant is an AFMRD member).
  • A statement of 300 words or fewer from the nominator outlining the nominee's accomplishments and explaining why they should receive the award.
  • The nominee's curriculum vitae (CV).
  • Two letters of support (one from leadership and one from a colleague).

 

Eligibility Notes

  • Current AFMRD Board members are not eligible.
  • Award recipients may receive only one AFMRD Excellence Award during their career.
  • Nominators may submit one nominee per category from their residency program.

 

Applications open now through Monday November 30th at 11pm CST

Applications will be reviewed by a committee and one awardee will be selected per category. Awards will be presented at the AFMRD Annual Meeting during AAFP's Residency Leadership Summit (RLS) in Dallas, TX on Wed. March 3, 2027.
