GOALS & STRATEGIC PRIORITIES

MISSION: The Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors (AFMRD) inspires and empowers family medicine residency program directors to achieve excellence in family medicine residency training. 

VISION: The Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors envisions a vibrant community of residency directors engaged in excellence, mutual assistance, and innovation to meet the health care needs of the public.

PLAN GOALS:
Professional Development and Education: Maintain and expand opportunities for education and development through innovative programming and mentorship models that meet the needs of our diverse membership.

Residency Program Quality Improvement: Provide resources to help programs share best practices, develop innovations, meet accreditation requirements and cultivate diversity & inclusion within their programs.

Advocacy and Collaboration: Support governmental advocacy related to family medicine initiatives and graduate medical education while communicating the vision for AFMRD’s role in advocacy within the field of family medicine.

Communications: Develop and maintain a robust multi-channel communications strategy that supports member engagement in small amounts of time on a regular basis to improve member awareness and knowledge exchange regarding activities, services and initiatives. 

Infrastructure: Foster an environment that leads to increased diversity in staff, membership and leadership.

STRATEGIES:

Strategy Priority 1: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Evaluate current policies and procedures to identify ways to increase diversity of staff and leadership while partnering with stakeholders to identify and implement professional development tools for groups that are under- represented in medicine (URM).

Strategy Priority 2: Member Engagement: Expand communication channels, improve member needs assessments, develop new opportunities for member engagement and develop mentorship programming.

Strategic Priority 3: Impact in Field of Family Medicine: Continue to support the Academic Family Medicine Advocacy Committee (AFMAC) through financial support and committee participation. Create clarity regarding the organization’s sphere of influence within the field of family medicine while evaluating scope of services.
