What are your greatest professional interests?

I’m interested in advocating for the value of primary care within our current health & hospital systems. I would love to see primary care/primary prevention as the key entry point to our health care system, rather than after some is ill.  There are already many studies showing our value, but now it’s time for implementation within our current structures.

I also do love teaching and mentoring, as I really looked up to mentors, particularly my URM mentors that I had in medical school.  I hope do to replicate that by being in an educational role for students and FM residents in 3-5 years after residency.

What are your personal hobbies and interests?

I love to bake, read novels, walk/cycle along Fox Valley River in Geneva or Lake Michigan (when I’m in the city), and exploring new food spots with my significant other and friends. ‘Summertime Chi’ is the best season in Chicago, as there’s always an outdoor festival to explore with good food and music!

If you could wave a magic wand and change one thing about graduate medical education, what would it be?

Reducing the focus on “numbers” and focusing on the qualitative qualities of applicants and residents. Family Medicine already does a great job of this, but hope to see this become adopted by all specialties in medicine.
