AFMRD PREZ RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FROM: KRISTINA DIAZ, MD, MBA, FAAFP
PRESIDENT, ASSOCIATION OF FAMILY MEDICINE RESIDENCY DIRECTORS

Your AFMRD Board has been in close contact with the Review Committee for Family Medicine (RC-FM)  leadership and we acknowledge that these requirements are not perfect, but that they are our best shot at recouping valuable core faculty time. These proposed revisions have been vetted by all family medicine organizations with unanimous support for the intended outcome.

To highlight important points and hopefully address some of the questions that have been raised:

  • We are able to propose these revisions due to the change in the Common Program Requirements that allows each Review Committee (RC) to write requirements that are inclusive of clinical and non-clinical time.
  • This language is what we have been told is most likely to garner ultimate approval. If this proposal does not receive favorable support through this Review and Comment period, core faculty will remain at the original 0.1 FTE protected time.
  • The third part of these requirements - II.B.4.f) - does state that the majority of the devoted time should be to ALL the duties of core faculty (teaching, administration, scholarly activity), not just clinical supervision.

Thank you for all of your thoughtful engagement on this topic.  Please consider filling out the ACGME Comment form with the below:

I am in favor of the proposed core faculty time requirements.

FROM: KRISTINA DIAZ, MD, MBA, FAAFP
PRESIDENT, ASSOCIATION OF FAMILY MEDICINE RESIDENCY DIRECTORS

I am honored to serve as your 2023-2024 AFMRD President.  I was delighted to see so many of you at the AAFP’s Residency Leadership Symposium (RLS).

As mentioned in my speech at the AFMRD Annual Meeting, this upcoming year we all need to come together to support each other as we navigate the implementation phase of the new ACGME Requirements.  I look forward to watching all of our residency programs succeed in the adventure ahead.  Please remain well-connected with the AFMRD team and with one another.

Thank you for being a member of the AFMRD!
