Residency Performance Index (RPI)

A new and improved RPI is coming your way!

The Residency Performance Index (RPI) is an AFMRD tool for family medicine residency program improvement. It is available to AFMRD members at no cost for use by individual programs to gauge and improve their performance in the metrics measured. Please note: You must have data on at least three classes of residents to submit.  If you are a new program that has not yet had three classes, we can provide you with the aggregate data for reference.

With the new RPI software,  you will enter your numbers and immediately see the aggregate numbers as well. The really great thing about the new software is that with just a few clicks, you can download your program’s RPI report to PowerPoint or Excel!  Since the software is new, we have prepared a Quick Guide to walk you through the new and improved process.  The Quick Guide will show you how to:

  • enter data online
  • view your results in both table and dashboard form
  • export dashboards
  • export graphs
  • export tables

worksheet provides you with a list of resources and a list of the questions.  You can print out the worksheet and gather your data as time allows from the various resources.  When you have all the data available, you will go online to enter the data.

If your program participated last year, your program director should have received an email with login information.

If your program did not participate last year, we need specific information to set your program up as a user:

  • Program Director First and Last Name
  • ACGME or AOA Number
  • Program Name
  • Program City and State
  • Email Address
  • Phone Number

If you wish to set up your program click here and fill out the form.  Once the staff has processed the application the program director will receive an email with instructions on how to proceed.

If your program as any questions about getting set up to participate, please contact Chris Pyle at 800-274-2237, ext. 6724.

The Residency Performance Index (RPI) is a tool developed and maintained by the AFMRD and is intended for the use of its members. Your program's individualized survey results in the form of an RPI report may only be used for your internal planning purposes. Publication or comparison to other programs or other data sets is strictly prohibited. The AFMRD will own all RPI data and survey results and will only use your data in anonymous, aggregate form for the purpose of advancing the mission of the AFMRD and its members.

If you have any questions about RPI, please contact Vickie Greenwood at 800.274.2237, ext. 6738.
