Steven V. Edelman, M.D.

Dr. Steven Edelman is the Founder and Chairman of Taking Control Of Your Diabetes.

Dr. Edelman is a native of Southern California and has been living with diabetes since the age of 15 years. After completing his diabetes specialty training at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, he came to the University of California at San Diego and has been on staff since 1990.

During the past 15 years, Dr. Edelman has become a local, national and now international leader in diabetes treatment, research, and especially education. Dr. Edelman champions the cause of patient advocacy and has dedicated his life to helping people with diabetes live healthier and happier lives. His work and time with TCOYD is given on a 100% volunteer basis.

Just a few of Dr. Edelman’s many accomplishments are:

  • Author of the book, ‘Taking Control of Your Diabetes’, editions one and two
  • 1994, 1999, 2002 UCSD Chief Resident’s ‘Teacher of the Year’ award
  • 2001 Recipient ‘Confidence Award’, Whittier Institute for Diabetes
  • 2001 Recipient UCSD ‘Humanism in Medicine’ Award
  • 2003, 2004 and 2005 Recipient, San Diego Magazine “Best Physicians in San Diego”

Dr. Edelman is married to Dr. Ingrid Kruse, a podiatrist who specializes in diabetes foot problems. They have two daughters, Talia and Carina.
