Afsha Rais Kaisani, MD

Dr. Rais Kaisani is the Associate Program Director at Medical City Arlington Family Medicine Residency Program.

She earned her medical degree from Saint James School of Medicine and completed her residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Regional Programs – Southwest Family Medicine Residency Program.

What are your greatest professional interests?

I am incredibly fortunate to have found a happy blend of primary care and academic medicine! I enjoy building relationships with my patients, participating in their healthcare journey and learning how to be a great physician for the community from my patients. I also love being part of the residency program; work doesn’t feel like work. I absolutely loved every aspect of my residency – the good and the tough, and I hope to inspire residents daily to enjoy their residency training as much as I did!

What are your personal hobbies and interests?

Talking my husband’s ears off! Aside from that, my husband and I love spending time with our two wild kids and when they fall asleep, we are learning various hacks to help us with parenting! I also love Bollywood, and often tell my residents that I define my culture as Bollywood.

If you could wave a magic wand and change one thing about graduate medical education, what would it be?

I would change attitudes of the healthcare systems so that the insights of the family physicians are accounted for and weighted appropriately in producing healthy outcomes for the patients we serve and enhancing training for our family medicine residents.
