Nikitas J. Zervanos Outstanding Program Director Award

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors (AFMRD) invite residency directors, program faculty, residents, and AAFP constituent chapters to submit names for consideration for the 2011 Nikitas J. Zervanos Outstanding Program Director Award.

Nominees for the award must be members of both organizations and must have been actively directing a family medicine residency for the past five years.

Other qualifications include demonstration of leadership and advancement of the specialty, service as a mentor to residents/medical students, and service to the community as well as to the organizations of the Family of Family Medicine. Current members of the AFMRD Board or the AAFP Commission on Education (CoE) are not eligible for consideration.

A selection committee comprising AFMRD Board members will review applications and forward a recommendation to the AAFP's Commission on Education for approval before forwarding to the AAFP Board for final approval. The winner will be recognized during the 2011Workshop for Directors of Family Medicine Residencies on June 12-14 in Kansas City, Missouri and will receive free registration to the meeting.

    • The required supporting documents are 1) a current Curriculum Vitae and 2) at least two (not more than three) letters of endorsement.
