The AAFP Division of Education maintains a clearinghouse of Extramural Resident Electives. The clearinghouse listing has over 160 elective opportunities in 64 different subject areas. Information can be obtained by specific elective subject, city and state.

Student Interest
AFMRD works with other primary care organizations to ensure that student interest continues to be addressed as a priority to all organized family medicine and that effective strategies are developed for promoting student interest.


Advocacy for Program Directors
AFMRD provides representation of program director's concerns to other organizations including the Residency Review Committee (RRC), American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), Bureau of Health Professions, Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM), Association of Departments of Family Medicine (ADFM), Council of Academic Societies (CAS), etc.


American Board of Family Medicine
Communication to relay the input of residency directors. A joint meeting of the ABFM and the AFMRD Executive Committees occurs every six months and ABFM has a column in the AFMRD's quarterly newsletter, Highlights.


Liaisons
Communication and liaison activities with other organized family medicine and medical organizations are established to ensure representation of program director's concerns with these entities are continued.


Governmental Affairs
AFMRD collaborates with the AAFP and Academic Family Medicine organizations to ensure that the AFMRD membership is kept up-to-date on legislative issues directly impacting family medicine graduate medical education.


Residency Review Committee for Family Medicine
AFMRD provides advocacy for program directors regarding proposed changes in training requirements.
